Schaut man genau hin, ist es ein trauriges Liebeslied. Aber für mich ist es nicht traurig. Wenn man einem englischen Texten lauscht, versteht man nicht sofort -oder überhaupt nicht- jedes Wort. Hängengeblieben bin ich am almost lover, dem beinahe Geliebten. Diese Formulierung gefällt mir und ich sehe darin nicht das, was fehlt, sondern das, was ist. Als nächstes gefiel mir die Textzeile: I never want you to see you unhappy. Das macht es für mich zu einem fröhlichen Lied. Dass im Text die Retourkutsche folgt, habe ich erst bei näherer Betrachtung gesehen. Für mich lasse ich das außen vor. Liebe und fordern schließen sich aus. Sich an etwas Schönes zu erinnern, muss ja nicht traurig stimmen. Auch das Glück liegt im Auge des Betrachters.
